48 Hours in Dullstroom – Part 2

A Panorama Route treasure and arguably one of the most romantic towns in South Africa, Dullstroom is the perfect destination for a quick mid-week or weekend getaway. To provide you with some much-needed travel inspiration at this time of year, and to make the process of planning a getaway to this charming town that much easier, we’ve mapped out a complete itinerary for 48 hours in Dullstroom.

Day Two

9:00 AM – Breakfast on the Terrace

Served from 08:00 AM – 10:00 AM, breakfast at Walkerson’s Terrace Restaurant is a memorable affair. If you’re looking to indulge, opt for the jam-packed Traditional English breakfast, the Eggs Benedict, or the French toast served with maple butter, streaky bacon and grilled banana. If you feel like a lighter option, choose the Low Carb Quattro Omelette with smoked trout and cream cheese, the fresh fruit platter, or the fruit cup with homemade granola. 11:00 AM – Wander Around Town

With a picturesque landscape, scores of boutique shops and delis, various art galleries, a thriving culinary scene, and a year-round air of festive hospitality, Dullstroom is one of the most charming towns in South Africa. Get a feel for the true nature of Dullstroom by simply strolling through town, and stopping at whatever storefront catches your eye.

13:00 PM – Lunch at Mrs Simpson’s

A Bucket List entry when visiting Dullstroom, Mrs Simpson’s Restaurant is owned and run by local residents Stephen De Meyer and Bryan Wolmarans. Listed in DINE 2008’s Top 100 Restaurants in South Africa, it boasts a bold and enticing menu and a vibrant atmosphere. Try out favourites such as the traditional Cape bobotie or Durban lamb curry, or stick to what Dullstroom is known for – trout – served deboned and stuffed with almonds, breadcrumbs, garlic and lemon.

14:30 PM – Whiskey Tasting at Wild About Whiskey

Easily one of the most popular establishments in Dullstroom, Wild About Whisky has the largest whisky menu in the southern hemisphere. An impressive list of over 1000 whiskies from across the globe features single malts, blends, blended malts, straight wheat and straight rye whiskies, bourbon, and much more. A ‘Whisky Tour’ or tasting is a must, comprising of six half-tots accompanied by pure still water and water biscuits, as well as guidelines on how best to enjoy it and how it was made.

16:00 PM – Relax by the Pool

After a busy day of exploring Dullstroom, no doubt you’ll want a moment to put your feet up. One of the best places to do so is by the pool at Walkersons. Overlooking the lush, rolling estate, the crystal-clear pool has various comfortable shaded and non-shaded seating areas.

19:00 PM – Dinner at The Flying Scotsman

Because one meal at the Flying Scotsman is not enough, we suggest returning for dinner on your second and final evening in Dullstroom. Fortunately, the menu varies from day-to-day, you won’t be eating the same thing twice, so you’ll have a whole new host of dishes to sink your teeth into.

Day Three

09:00 AM – Breakfast on your Veranda

A more laid-back way to begin your final day in Dullstroom, why not have breakfast on your very own private patio. Merely phone into Reception to order your meal, and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee overlooking the lush lawn and tranquil lake at the back of the hotel.

10:30 AM – Spa Treatment at Walkersons Spa

What better way to round off a stay in Dullstroom than with a relaxing treatment at the Walkersons Spa? Properly prepare yourself for the week ahead by indulging in an aromatherapy full body massage, a classic manicure or pedicure, a head-to-toe body exfoliation, or a steaming detox body wrap.

12:30 AM – Picnic on the Estate

If you’re visiting Dullstroom in spring or summer, make sure to take full advantage of the warm weather with a picnic on the Walkersons Estate. Simply pick a spot, or allow us to choose one for you, and the hotel staff will take care of the rest. Regular favourites in the picnic basket include fresh fruit, savoury pastries, salads, and sandwiches. We would also suggest selecting a bottle of champagne or wine from our award-winning cellar to truly complete your experience.
