The Mpumalanga Highlands is known for its spectacular scenery, rich cultural, and incredible landmarks such as the Blyde River Canyon. The picturesque town of Dullstroom is no exception; with rolling hills, trout-filled dams, and scenic walks. Although most commonly explored on foot or by car, it is also possible to do so on horseback with the Dullstroom Riding Centre.
The riding centre’s story began in the 1980’s with “Valley of Gold Horse Trails” which then became Lakenvlei Horse Trails. After a further 2 years, Dave and Rhoda Curtis moved to Elandskloof Trout Farm, which unfortunately ended up being a little out of the way for clients, so a new venue was found at Walkersons. With hand-picked horses selected for their incredible and even temperaments, the herd has adapted well to their new home!
Explore unspoilt landscapes and superb scenery while traversing rolling hills, passing glistening lakes and exploring the verdant forests of Dullstroom. Away from the main town, any adventure on horseback with Dullstroom Riding Centre will only feature various species of flora and fauna, as well as any family and friends joining your ride.
The Dullstroom Riding Centre offers various trails catering for first-timers, experienced equestrians and everything in between.
A one hour, horseback adventure through the beautiful landscapes surrounding the centre will cost R200 per person. Should you have a little more experience, perhaps embark on the 2-hour ride at R350 per person. Although there are a variety of horses available, there is a weight restriction of 95kgs.
Should you be travelling with the entire family, there are also on-the-lead pony rides lasting between 10 and 15 minutes at R60 – including a safety helmet!
With a host of other activities to enjoy during your stay, Walkersons Hotel & Spa is the ideal base from which to experience the diverse town of Dullstroom. When you’re not enjoying an unforgettable horseback experience, try some fly-fishing, tee-off at a nearby golf course, or embark on a variety of walks and hikes in the area.
