Although Dullstroom is widely known as South Africa’s ultimate fly fishing destination, both the Walkersons Hotel and Spa estate and the surrounding region boast a variety of gripping activities that are sure to enthrall you. Not only is the picturesque and quaint town of Dullstroom home to the luxurious Walkersons Hotel and Spa but it is also home to the Dullstroom Bird of Prey and Rehabilitation Centre. The Centre is a must visit if you’re staying at our Hotel, or anywhere in the area for that matter, and are looking for an exciting and educational way to spend your morning or afternoon in Dullstroom.
The Dullstroom Bird Of Prey Centre was established in 1997 and has been located at its present site since November 2004. The Centre strives to promote conservation through education with a heavy emphasis on allowing the public to interact with the wildlife on an educational basis rather than an entertainment basis. The centre hopes to instill an understanding within members of the public about raptors by promoting awareness of the raptor species and their plight as a growing endangered species. The centre evolved into a rehabilitation centre when it became evident that there was a great need for care of injured and orphaned birds of prey as well as other wildlife species. The centre is open from Wednesdays to Mondays; 9am to 4pm, subject to weather conditions so it’s best to call in advance to make sure the centre is open.
