The fly fishing capital of South Africa, Dullstroom, will come alive on Friday the 30th of June through to Sunday the 2nd of July as the Dullstroom Winter Festival takes place. The quaint town with its 19th and 20th century building designs as well as its country side scenery will host a variety of musical performances, accompanied with several shops and eateries promoting their products which include whiskey, beer, wine, chocolate and cheese tasting. Dullstroom, although known as one of the coldest villages in South Africa, will become a haven for families and friends to get together to experience much-needed warmth and wonder in winter.
The festival commences on Friday at 7pm at the Waffle and Co Dullstroom with musical artist Elvis Blue setting the tone for the event with his unique blend of charisma and authenticity. Tickets are R140 per person and are available at the venue. Come and enjoy this South African favourite and be taken on a journey both entertaining and personal. If you’re not ready to end the evening here then not to worry, you don’t have to. Head over to the Duck & Trout at 8:30pm and enjoy entertainment by Kobus de Kock Jnr, Andre Kriel and Gareth Wilson, free of charge.
The main event, Concert at the Dam, takes place on Saturday with gates opening at 11am and the first act performing at 12:30pm. Tickets are R120 per person and are worth every cent as you will be treated to music by the likes of:
13h30: Kinky Robot
14h30: Ultra Natives
15h30: Prime Circle
It’s the perfect opportunity to spend a chilly afternoon as your body will warm up as you move to the tunes and your ears will do the same as the musical beats flow through them. Bring along a picnic blanket to allow yourself the opportunity to relax and lounge out as well whilst you enjoy a glass of wine.
On Saturday evening at 8:30pm the party gets started. DJ Cyco, Jacaranda FM presenter, will be spinning the decks at the Duck & Trout and promises nothing short of an energetic performance to get you grooving into the evening.
Sadly, all good things come to an end but the Dullstroom Winter Festival hopes to make it an ending to remember. Head down to the Waffle & Co at 11 on Sunday morning to allow guests, Albert Meintjes and Billa Pansegrouw, entertain you. Otherwise, spend the morning at Rose Cottage enjoying Scarlet and the Christmas Carols Swing Band, all free of charge.
