Dullstroom is one of the most unconventional, fun destinations in Mpumalanga. Featuring South Africa’s railway station, the largest clock collection in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the largest collections of whiskey below the equator, it is hardly surprising that Dullstroom is also home to some unique eateries. Allow us to introduce you to a few of our favourites;
Mad Hatter Café
Located in the cobbled square of Cherry Grove, the quirky café is armed with punny menus stuck into old books. The menu is varied and contains dishes from French toast with honey, chocolate or dukkah to beef stroganoff and Moroccan chicken. In addition to some main menu items, Mad Hatter Café is probably best known for its fabulous coffee and delicious cakes. Not only a Dullstroom favourite, the café was recently nominated for the 2019 RASA Top 100 Coffee Show Awards.
When the weather is fair we recommend sitting outside in the picturesque piazza (square) and watching the world go by.
The café is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Tea every day except Wednesday from 07h00 – 17h00.
Udderlicious Milkshake Bar
With over 40 flavours to choose from, this family-friendly joint has swiftly become a firm favourite with locals and visitors. Fortunately, if you’re not in the mood for something sweet, Udderlicious also serve a few light, savoury meals. Udderlicious received TripAdvisor’s Certificate in 2018 and again in 2019 so don’t just take our word for it!
This quirky milkshake bar is open every day except Wednesday from 09h00 to 17h00 and can be found in Millys Centre.
Mrs. Simpson’s
A trip to Dullstroom would simply be incomplete without a trip to Mrs. Simpson’s Restaurant. Since its opening in 2005, the restaurant has become somewhat of an institution and continues to win awards. Mrs Simpson’s is famous for its unique decor, ambiance and excellent cuisine.
The restaurant is closed on Tuesday’s but otherwise open every day from 11h00 – 15h00 and then 18h00 – 21h00. We recommend making a booking by calling 013 254 0088 as it is a popular spot!
