‘Dullstroom is most beautiful in the winter’ – a sentiment you will likely hear out of the mouths of locals living in the Mpumalanga highveld. Located more than 2000m above sea level, Dullstroom experiences a winter unlike anywhere else in South Africa. Although colder than most local travellers are used to, there is a distinct charm to this quaint town during the winter months. Here’s how we think you can most the most out of winter in Dullstroom.
Dullstroom is the well known fly-fishing capital of South Africa. While many of the Dullstroom dams and lakes have no closed season, the best time of year for fly-fishing is from July to September. Walkersons itself features 14 different dams and small lakes filled with rainbow trout, making it the perfect place to hone your angling skills. For equipment hire, and a range of tips and tricks, make sure to visit Reception.
Many of Dullstroom’s restaurants and coffee shops have a built-in cure for a dull winter’s day – a fireplace! The Flying Scotsman at Walkersons Hotel & Spa, in particular, is known for its crackling fireplaces. Each of our suites also boasts open Morso fireplaces. Guests are invited to settle into a plush armchair and put their feet up with a glass of red wine in-hand.On special at the moment, is our Highland Platter for 2, where you will receive 2 complimentary glasses of our Wine of the Day.
The much-loved Dullstroom Winter Festival returns to the Dullstroom calendar of events this July. This year, the festival takes place from 6 to 8 July. It will include many exciting musical performances accompanied by a variety of food and drinks offerings from various local establishments. The Saturday 7 July line-up is as follows:
12H30 – Dullybuggers
13H30 – Crystal Park
14H30 – Kinky Robot
15H30 – Jesse Clegg
Warm up with our Winter Soup Special on offer everyday at Walkersons, served with a slice of freshly baked bread. Only R45 per serving. Available all day, every day!
