Mountain Biking Trails Dullstroom

All roads lead to Dullstroom when it comes to mountain biking. Quiet roads, varying terrain and predictable weather are perfect conditions for this outdoor sport, and Dullstroom has them all. There are several well-worn routes in the area so ask at reception or contact the local tourism board for information on these before setting off willy-nilly into unknown territory from your Dullstroom accommodation.

There are seven main mountain-bike trails in the area:

  • Dullstroom to Tonteldoos & back – 46 km

Get ready to climb on this dirt track, which will take you up to 2150m soon after leaving town. This is a safe route with very little traffic and a wonderful venue for a halfway break at Pendlehill Dairy, where you can boost your protein with a range of gourmet cheeses and other homemade delicacies.

  • Kruisfontein Loop – 42km

The Kruisfontein Loop features some very strenuous climbs when ridden in a clockwise direction. Anti-clockwise it has the same amount of total elevation but the precipitous Wickhams climb becomes a hazardous downhill instead.

  • T6 Stoffberg Ring Road – 78km

This route is long and arduous and only suitable for the super-fit MTB enthusiast.

  • Kruisfontein / Machadodorp ring road – 33km in total

Incorporating mainly quiet country roads this simple loop will take you down to the Crocodile River past the Birds of Prey Centre and then back to your starting point in Dullstroom.

  • De Berg Road – Distance, own choice

The De Berg Road is an exceptionally picturesque ride and can be done in both directions. There is 75 km of ride-able track available, incorporating the highest point in the old Transvaal Province and the highest tar toad in South Africa. The scenery is very picturesque on these country roads, and you will pass alongside the Dullstroom Nature Reserve, manicured farmlands and scenic wetlands teeming with bird life.

  • Railway Track – 14 km

‘Railway track’ is a short, easy and pretty route through hills and valleys up from Dullstroom town along the railway line to Walkersons Country Estate and back again.
